Comments:

I bought the Rebel Pirate from Pete's Rockets at the IRW when the weather was too inclement for flying. Basically I just wanted something active to do. The Pirate is a very simple rocket, consisting of little more than a 3ft length of 4inch Phenolic tubing, MMT, fins and nosecone. Mine had a 29mm MMT, which I swapped out and replaced with a 54mm KwikSwitch. The 29mm tubing could be used for something else at a later date. The airframe looks like it is made from the same phenolic as PML, but without the PML logos on the inside, so should be sturdy enough for J flights with little problem.

Construction is very similar to PML, but without the piston. Instead there is an eyelet at the top of the MMT to which you attach the recovery harness. Instead of the piston, Rebel supply a Nomex chute pouch, but it seemed a bit small to me. For the first flight I replaced the stock harness with one of my own, which I had cobbled together from another PML kit, but I added a large Giant Leap Nomex flameshield, and a Nomex Shockcord protector. I attached everything with quicklinks, making it easy to swap between rockets.
